Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about Westmark Credit Union and membership.

Credit unions are member-owned, not-for-profit financial cooperatives. Unlike banks that are owned by shareholders and focused on profits, credit unions return profits to members through better rates, lower fees, and improved services. Members have equal ownership and voting rights, regardless of account balance.

Membership is open to anyone who lives, works, worships, or attends school in our service area, as well as employees of select employer groups and their family members. Immediate family members of current members are always eligible. Check our eligibility requirements to see if you qualify.

Becoming a member is easy! You can join online, visit any branch, or call us. You'll need a valid government-issued photo ID and a minimum $5 deposit to open a Primary Savings account, which establishes your membership. Once you're a member, you can open additional accounts and access all our services.

Yes! All deposits are federally insured by the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) up to $250,000 per account type. This is the same level of protection as FDIC insurance for banks. Your money is safe and protected. Different account types are insured separately, so you can have more than $250,000 insured total.

Once you become a member, you remain a member for life, even if you move away. You can access your accounts online, by phone, or through shared branching networks.
